Georgia GDP Grows 4.5% YoY in Q2
Georgia’s GDP expanded 4.5 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, easing from a 4.9 percent advance in the previous period. Growth was driven by transport (17.9 percent), real estate, renting and business activities (16.9 percent), hotels and restaurants (14.1 percent), electricity, gas and water supply (11.5 percent), communication (10.8 percent), health and social work (9.3 percent), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles and personal and household goods (7.4 percent), other community, social and personal service activities (5.2 percent), financial intermediation (4.3 percent), public administration (3.0 percent) and agriculture, hunting and forestry; fishing (2.1 percent). On the other hand, education (-7.9 percent), mining and quarrying (-7.7 percent), construction (-4.6 percent), manufacturing (-4.5 percent) contributed negatively to growth.

Georgia GDP Growth Strengthens to 4.9% YoY in Q1
The Georgian economy advanced 4.9 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2019, following a 4.5 percent expansion in the previous period. Growth was stronger mainly for wholesale & retail trade (6.7% vs 6.1% in Q4); communication (12.3% vs 10%); real estate & business activities (11.1% vs 10.7%); public administration (6.2% vs 1.2%) and transport (12.8% vs 12.6%). Meanwhile, restaurants & hotels (13.1% vs 16.1%) and financial intermediation (3.6% vs 8.6%) rose less. On the other hand, output contracted for manufacturing (-2% vs 0.5%); construction (-9.6% vs -2.4%); mining & quarrying (-3.8% vs 3.2%) and agriculture (-0.3% vs 5.4%).

Georgia GDP Growth Accelerates to 4.5% in Q4
The Georgian economy grew 4.5 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, following a 3.7 percent expansion in the previous period. The growth accelerated for wholesale & retail trade (6.1% vs 2.4% in Q3 2018); hotels & restaurants (16.1% vs 7.4%); communication (10.0% vs 8.9%); and agriculture (5.4% vs 3.8%). In addition, output rebounded for both public administration (1.2% vs -2.9%) and manufacturing (0.5% vs -2.3%). On the other hand, output slowed for mining and quarrying (3.2% vs 6.2%); financial intermediation (8.6% vs 15.0%); transport (12.6% vs 16.2%) and real estate activities (10.7% vs 13.4%). Meanwhile, contractions were seen in electricity, gas, and water supply (-8.4% vs 0.9%) and construction (-2.4% vs -9.2%). For 2018 as a whole, the economy expanded 4.7 percent, easing from a 4.8 percent advance in 2017.
